Star Gazing

Imposing expanse
Dark embrace
Beckoning lights
Hope and fear mingle
I reach
Yearning to fly
Yet not completely disappointed
That my feet stay on the ground.

Flight

On immense, undulating grasslands

Framed by towering snow-capped mountains

An open expanse rolling like ocean waves

Swept by gusts careening down from the mountain peaks

And an endless blue sky above

Caressed by clouds full of the promise of rain

On the tide of winds

Soaring

Diving

Climbing

Gliding with my hands spread out over the top of the wild grasses

This is where my soul lives.

Cobwebs in the corners

Only seen when I lay in bed

Unwilling to turn off the light

And surrender the day

Cobwebs in the corners

A relic of melancholy spiders

Reminding me

I will not dream

Until I turn off the light

Home

When looking out the window

Greeted by leaden skies

And the deep stillness of a winter morning after a snowfall

I am most at home.
